Wolfenstein 2: Alt-Right fury over Nazism’s depiction

Thriteen second campaign causes chaos for Bethesda from Nazis.

When confronted with difficult topics in a video game, there are often controversies on social networks and other online communities. In the case of Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, Bethesda has faced heavy flak from none other than supporters of the enemy of New Colossus campaign.

The campaign of Wolfenstein 2 puts us again in the skin of B. J. Blazkowicz to fight against Nazism in a fictitious cultural and military conquest of the United States. The advertising campaign of the game is accompanied by a thirteen second video and with the label #NoMoreNazis.
Pete Hines, CEO of Bethesda, commented in an interview with GamesIndustry the company's perspective on this situation - if they had not been clear enough.

“At the time, none of us expected that the game would be seen as
a comment on current issues, but here we are. Bethesda doesn’t
develop games to make specific statements or incite political
discussions. We make games that we think are fun, meaningful, and
immersive for a mature audience. In ‘Wolfenstein’s’ case,
it’s pure coincidence that Nazis are marching in the streets of
America this year. And it’s disturbing that the game can be
considered a controversial political statement at all.”
